Concrete Slabs Canberra

Concrete Slabs in Canberra provide the strong, level base that homes, garages, sheds, patios and workshops depend on. A well-built slab handles loads, resists moisture and gives you a stable surface that lasts for decades with minimal maintenance. Good preparation and quality materials keep your new slab flat and strong. Tell us how you will use the slab, its size and any loads, and we will recommend thickness, reinforcement, vapour barriers and finish. Canberra's reactive clay and frosts make preparation essential, so correct compaction and curing across Belconnen, Gungahlin and Tuggeranong keep slabs flat and strong. Expect a lasting base.

  • Careful site prep — Digging, levelling and compacting so the slab sits on solid ground
  • Proper reinforcement — Mesh or bar placed to stop the slab cracking once weight goes on it
  • Precision pouring — A well-run pour that leaves the slab flat and true
  • Tailored to purpose — Designed for what it's carrying, whether that's a house, a shop or a factory
  • Compliance focused — Built to the Australian Standards and ACT building rules your certifier checks

Whether it's a backyard shed pad or a big commercial footing, we've got the gear and the experience to pour it right first go. Send us your plans and we'll come back with a clear, fixed price.

Slab types we pour

Types of Slabs in Canberra

Your soil report, your building’s weight and your block’s drainage decide the slab — we just follow the evidence.

01

Waffle pod systems

You’ll see these all over Gungahlin and Molonglo. Polystyrene pods lift the slab off reactive clay and add a little insulation underfoot.

02

Stiffened raft slabs

When your ground is patchy or loose, one deep-edged reinforced slab spreads the house’s weight evenly so no corner settles on its own.

03

Strip footings and infill

Got firmer ground? We dig trenches under the load-bearing walls, pour the footings, then fill in the floor slab between them.

04

Sheds and workshops

Parking a ute, a boat or a lathe? We size the pad and its steel to whatever’s going to sit on it, not a one-size-fits-all guess.

05

Granny flats and studios

Adding a granny flat or backyard studio? We pour the slab with plumbing and electrical set-downs and thickened edges, ready for your builder.

06

Extensions that tie in

A new room needs to move with the old house, not against it. We dowel the new slab into your current footings and keep the damp-proof course intact.

Why soil comes first

Most Common Slab Types in Canberra

The design that suits a block in the next suburb could be all wrong for yours. Here's a rough guide to what's underfoot around Canberra.

Reactive clay

You'll find it under a large part of the city, Hughes and Griffith through to Belconnen. It moves with every wet spell and dry summer, so a waffle pod or stiffened raft is the usual answer.

Shallow rock & slopes

More common on hillier suburbs like Red Hill, Hackett and Weston Creek — excavation may need a rock breaker and footings often step down the slope.

New-estate cut & fill

Estate blocks in Gungahlin, Molonglo and Googong can be part natural clay, part placed fill on the one lot. The soil report shows where, so the slab design can allow for it.

How a slab job runs

Canberra Slabs Installation and Repair Process

Every slab we pour is built to an engineer's design based on a proper soil report, and we'll liaise with your builder whenever the job needs it. Site classification matters most, since it decides what kind of slab you need — a sloping block over shallow rock in Red Hill and reactive clay or estate fill in Molonglo call for quite different designs, and getting it wrong means movement later. With the engineering settled, we peg out the slab, ready the ground and set formwork at the levels the surveyor has marked. Steel is checked by the inspector before any concrete arrives, then we manage the cure and hand over your sign-off paperwork.

1

Soil report & engineering

We’ll use your existing soil report or organise a new one, then settle the slab design and steel with your engineer.

2

Site prep & formwork

We dig and compact the ground to the depth the engineer specifies, then set formwork exactly to the plan dimensions.

3

Reinforcement & pour

Steel, mesh and pods go in as specified and get inspected first, then we pour and finish the slab within tolerance.

4

Cure & sign-off

We cure the slab on a set schedule, then complete sign-off with your engineer or builder so the next trade can start.

Why locals choose us for slabs

Why Choose Our Canberra Concrete Slabs

Nail the groundwork and steel on the first attempt and your builder and certifier can keep the project moving.

Engineer-certified designs

Each slab we pour follows a design your engineer has approved for that block, never a stock plan reused from the last job.

Soil-matched slab type

Your soil report, not habit, decides whether you get a waffle pod, a raft or strip footings.

Licensed & insured

We're a registered builder carrying public liability insurance, and your certifier can have copies whenever they need them.

Fixed-price quotes

One fixed figure in writing for the groundwork, forms, steel and concrete, signed off by you before day one.

Builder & engineer coordination

We talk straight to your builder and engineer whenever a stage has to be inspected or approved, so you're not stuck in the middle.

7 year workmanship guarantee

Our workmanship on every slab is guaranteed for seven years, and any fault in that time is ours to fix at no charge.

Before you call

Concrete slabs questions we get asked in Canberra

Questions owners and builders usually raise before we price a slab.

Why does the site classification matter?

It decides the whole design. A steep, rocky block in Red Hill and a flat reactive clay block in Gungahlin need very different slabs, and a design meant for one would crack or shift on the other.

Do you need an engineer's drawings?

We do, and we follow them to the letter. The steel is laid and inspected before any concrete goes in, since a certifier won't approve what's already buried.

Can you coordinate with my builder?

Absolutely — a slab job usually can't work without it. Levels, set-out and the order other trades come through all get agreed with your builder before we lock in a pour.

What documentation do I get?

You'll receive the slab sign-off paperwork your build needs to keep moving. We put it together as we go, so you're not waiting on it after the pour.

When can my builder start work on the new slab?

It has to cure properly before it carries any weight, and that takes longer on cold Canberra mornings. We'll give you a firm date so your framers don't turn up to concrete that isn't ready.
