Concrete Services in Coombs

Coombs was one of the first Molonglo Valley suburbs, and many of its homes have now moved past handover into the stage where owners want the outside finished properly. That is where most of our Coombs work sits: driveways where the builder's version was basic or left for later, side paths, patios, clothesline pads and slabs for sheds and studios. Coombs lots are a mix of cut natural ground and engineered fill, often with slope toward the Molonglo River corridor, so the ground under one block can differ from the next. We quote concrete in Coombs after checking the site, the levels set by the builder and any estate requirements, so your new driveway and paths suit both the house and the street.

  • Post-handover driveways — Driveways poured once the house is finished, matched to garage and verge crossing levels and to estate guidelines where they apply.
  • Side paths & clothesline pads — Practical concrete around new homes — side access, bin areas and clothesline pads — that builders often leave out.
  • Patios & alfresco extensions — Slabs that extend a builder's alfresco into a larger outdoor area, with falls away from the house.

What's under Coombs

Ground conditions in Coombs

Once the concrete is poured, there's no going back to fix what's under it. That's why we look at the ground here before we price a single square metre.

Cut-and-fill estate lots

Coombs blocks were shaped during estate development, with some areas in cut clay and others on placed fill. We check which you have before setting the base.

Engineered fill

Fill compacted to a level-1 report can be suitable for driveways and patios, but uncontrolled fill near boundaries or retaining needs extra preparation.

Slope toward the river corridor

Many lots fall toward the Molonglo River side, so stormwater falls and retaining around patios are part of the design.

Coombs concrete questions

Questions we hear a lot from Coombs homeowners before we come out to quote.

When should I pour a driveway after building in Coombs?

Ideally once heavy construction is finished and trades and machinery are off the block, so the new concrete is not damaged. If your builder's contract excludes the driveway, we can pour after handover. We check the garage level, verge crossing requirements and any estate design guidelines first, and plan timing around landscaping so the concrete goes in before turf and gardens.

Do Coombs estate guidelines affect my driveway?

They can. Some Molonglo estates have design guidelines or conditions covering driveway width, materials or colours, and verge crossings need ACT Government (TCCS) approval to standard drawings. Check your contract of sale and any estate documents, and ask your builder if you are unsure. We will work to whatever applies to your block once you confirm it.

Is the ground under my new Coombs home stable enough for concrete?

Usually, provided the base is prepared for what is actually there. Estate lots can include cut clay and engineered fill, and areas near retaining or boundaries may have looser fill. We look at the site, ask about your soil report or fill documentation if available, and set base depth and reinforcement to suit, rather than assuming new estate ground is uniform.
