Concrete Services in Manuka
Manuka is best known for its shops, cafés and the oval, but the streets around it are some of the most established in Canberra. It is not a separate suburb on the map — homes here are formally in Griffith or Forrest — yet locals call it Manuka, so we do too. The housing is a mix of interwar cottages, renovated family homes and newer townhouses and apartments close to the shops. We pour concrete in Manuka for driveway replacements, courtyards, garden paths and small slabs for studios and sheds, often on blocks where access is tight, parking is scarce and a large tree has a say in where the concrete goes. We quote from a site visit, because two homes a few doors apart here can need very different work.
- Driveway replacement — Root-lifted or cracked driveways broken out and replaced, with the base corrected and a finish that suits the home.
- Courtyards for townhouses & renovations — Small, carefully detailed courtyards, drained properly and finished to sit level with indoor floors where possible.
- Studio & shed slabs — Slabs for backyard studios, sheds and garden rooms, poured to suit the structure and any certifier requirements.

Concrete Finishes in Manuka
Polished Concrete
We grind and seal your slab to a shine, trialling the gloss level on a small patch first so you can see it.
Coloured Concrete
Colour mixed right through or stained on top, picked from cured samples you can view in daylight at home.
Honed Concrete
A smooth, low-sheen surface that stays grippy underfoot when it is wet or frosty, ideal around pools and alfrescos.
Exposed Aggregate
Stones revealed at the surface give you traction on a sloping block and hide tyre marks and leaf stains well.
Stencilled Concrete
Brick, tile or paver patterns laid into a new pour, or applied over an existing slab that is still solid.
Stamped Concrete
Stone, slate or timber textures stamped into fresh concrete, with the layout planned so edges finish cleanly.
Concrete Expertise in Manuka
Driveways
Built on a base suited to your soil, with control joints placed properly and the verge crossing to TCCS standards.
Patios
We walk the heights and drainage falls with you before pouring, since they are locked in once the concrete sets.
Al Frescos
An alfresco floor has to meet your indoor level exactly, so we sort the heights with your builder before booking.
Pathways
Paths graded so summer storm runoff heads away from your walls, not back against the footings.
Pool Surrounds
We settle grip, how hot it gets under bare feet in summer, and the edge detail at the coping before we start.
Foundations
Footings dug and steel fixed to your engineer and soil report, then inspected by the certifier before any concrete goes in.
Other Concrete Services in Manuka
Concrete Installation
Driveways, patios, footings and slabs quoted after we have seen your block and ground, not from a price list.
Concrete Repair
Before any fix, we find what made your slab crack, heave or flake, so the damage doesn't come straight back.
Concrete Slabs
House, shed and granny flat slabs built to an engineer design that suits your block’s soil class.
Concrete Resurfacing
A new finish laid over solid old concrete, with most of the effort going into cleaning and prepping it.
Concrete Replacement
We break out the failed concrete, fix the ground beneath it and pour fresh, so the fault is not repeated.
Concrete Removal
Pipes and cables found and access sorted before breaking starts, and the rubble trucked off for recycling.
Excavation and Earthworks in Manuka
Digging and Dirty Works
Awkward little digs where finding buried services and fitting a machine in take the most thought.
Excavation
We check depths, heights and buried pipes on site first, so the dig goes to plan from day one.
Earthworks
Ground cut and filled, then compacted layer by layer, with testing done whenever your certifier asks for it.
Trenching
Trenches dug to the right fall, bedded and packed back in layers so they do not sink after a wet winter.
Digger Hire
An excavator plus an experienced operator, with the right size machine chosen after we look at your access.
Demolition
Asbestos checked and services cut off before we pull anything down, with waste sorted so more gets recycled.
Ground conditions in Manuka
Once the concrete is poured, there's no going back to fix what's under it. That's why we look at the ground here before we price a single square metre.
Old-growth street trees
Some of Canberra's oldest street trees line these blocks. Their roots crack and lift older driveways, and replacing them needs a plan that respects the tree.
Compacted clay from decades of use
Ground under long-standing driveways is often hard-packed clay with mixed fill on top, which can hide soft spots once the old concrete is lifted.
Busy streets, little room
Being close to the shops means limited parking and foot traffic. Truck, pump and barrier placement is planned before the pour, not on the day.
Manuka concrete questions
Questions we hear a lot from Manuka homeowners before we come out to quote.
Is Manuka a suburb in its own right?
Not officially. Manuka is the shopping and residential precinct where Griffith and Forrest meet, so your address may say either. It matters mainly for heritage checks, since parts of both suburbs sit inside heritage precincts with their own guidance. We help you work out which applies to your block, so you know whether a front-yard change needs checking before we book the job.
How do you handle parking and access near the Manuka shops?
Carefully and in advance. We visit before the pour to plan where the truck and pump will stand, how long they will be there and what barriers are needed for footpaths. On narrow blocks we may use a line pump to reach the back. Early starts help us avoid the busiest times, and we keep the street clean when we finish.
Can you replace a driveway without harming my street tree?
In most cases, yes. Street trees are managed by TCCS, and work inside a tree protection zone may need approval under the ACT Tree Protection Act. We look at root positions, excavation depth and alignment, and can recommend a shallower base or bridging detail where an arborist agrees. The aim is a driveway that lasts without killing the tree.
