Polished Concrete Canberra

Polished Concrete in Canberra turns a plain slab into a smooth, reflective surface that looks refined and lasts for years. Grinding and polishing reveal the natural character of the concrete, creating a durable, low-maintenance floor that suits homes, showrooms, offices and workshops across the capital. It suits many property styles. Tell us about your space and preferred finish, and we will advise on sheen, aggregate, colour and sealing. Polished floors suit Canberra's sunny, passive-solar homes in Gungahlin, Belconnen and Tuggeranong, where careful grinding and quality sealing deliver a hard-wearing, easy-clean surface. The result looks refined and stays easy to maintain.

  • Aggregate exposure — Grind depth sets the look: barely any stone (cream), a fine salt-and-pepper speckle, or the full aggregate on show
  • Gloss level — Anything from a soft matte to a mirror-like shine, depending on how many polishing stages we run
  • New or existing slabs — We can polish a brand-new slab, or an older one once we’ve checked it’s up to the job
  • No coating to fail — You’re walking on the concrete itself, so there’s no topcoat waiting to lift, blister or flake
  • Low maintenance — A broom and a damp mop keep it clean — you’ll never strip and recoat it like an epoxy floor

What's included

Canberra Polished Concrete Services

Whether it’s a brand-new slab or the one hiding under your old carpet, here’s how we can finish it.

01

Polishing a fresh pour

Planning a new build? We’ll help pick the mix and stone now, so the floor you uncover after grinding is the one you pictured.

02

Reviving the slab underneath

Pulled up tired carpet or tiles? We’ll check what’s under there first, then grind and polish it if it’s genuinely worth leaving bare.

03

Subtle salt and pepper

Just a light cut showing fine sand and specks of stone. It’s the safe bet when nobody knows what aggregate went into your slab.

04

Full stone on show

Want that terrazzo feel? We cut deeper to bring the whole stone through, which works best when the slab was poured with this planned.

05

Garages and home workshops

Drip oil, drag the trailer in, hose it out on Saturday. A densified, sealed floor shrugs off stains and won’t keep kicking up dust.

06

Shops, offices and showrooms

Need to keep the doors open? We’ll polish in sections around your trading hours and set the slip rating to suit your foot traffic.

Residential Homes & Alfresco Areas in Canberra

More and more Canberra families are choosing polished concrete because it looks sharp and copes with real life. It’s a natural fit for open-plan living, kitchens and covered alfresco areas, carrying one floor from the lounge out to the deck. Passive-solar homes in Gungahlin and Denman Prospect get a bonus too: the slab soaks up winter sun through north-facing glass and gives the warmth back at night. Muddy footy boots, dropped plates and the dog’s water bowl won’t trouble it.

  • Low-maintenance surface, easy to clean and stain-resistant
  • Seamless indoor-outdoor flow for alfresco living
  • Long-lasting finish suited to busy family homes

Retail, Hospitality & Commercial Spaces in Canberra

From cafes in Braddon and Kingston to showrooms in Fyshwick and offices in the city, Canberra businesses keep turning to polished concrete. It handles constant foot traffic far better than carpet or tiles, so you spend less over the years patching and replacing. Owners like that it stays smart with nothing more than regular sweeping and mopping, and there’s no flooring contractor to call back every few years.

  • Withstands high foot traffic and daily wear
  • Cost-efficient alternative to tiles or carpet
  • Sleek, professional look for commercial spaces

How the job runs

Canberra Polished Concrete Process

You’ll know exactly what your floor will look like before the real work begins. Because polishing removes material rather than adding it, the stone already sitting in your slab is all we’ve got to reveal, so we take a careful look at it first — especially on an older floor where nobody knows what mix went in. We’ll cut a small sample area right there in the room, and you decide on the stone showing and the shine in your own daylight. After that it runs in a set order: heavy grinding, patching, hardening, then progressively finer polishing. Allow three to five days for most homes, a bit more if carpet glue or tiles need lifting.

1

Slab Assessment & Moisture Check

First we test how level the floor is, look for old sealers or glue, map any cracks and measure moisture. On an older slab, that tells us if your look is realistic.

2

Coarse Grind & Repairs

Heavy diamonds cut down to the level of stone you picked, and we patch cracks and pits in a matching tone before the finer work starts.

3

Densify & Refine

We apply a hardener that soaks in and toughens the top layer, then step through finer and finer pads until the shine matches what we quoted.

4

Seal & Handover

A sealer that soaks into the surface helps keep spills out, and we’ll walk the room with you and leave care notes in writing.

Why locals choose us

Why Choose Our Polished Concrete Experts in Canberra

With polishing there’s no putting stone back once it’s been ground away, so we spend more effort reading your slab than running the grinder.

Samples before we grind

We grind and polish a small trial area on your actual floor, so you sign off on real stone and real sheen rather than a brochure shot.

Honest read on existing slabs

Some older slabs just won’t polish up nicely. If an overlay or another finish would serve you better, we’ll say so before you spend a cent.

Dust-extracted grinding

Our grinders are hooked up to industrial vacuums, so the dust stays out of your cupboards, couches and lungs while you’re living there.

Slip rating advice

Shiny floors and wet feet don’t mix. Laundries, entries and bathrooms get a lower sheen than the lounge room.

Fixed-price quotes

One written price covering the grind, patching, hardener, polish and sealer, agreed before a machine is switched on.

7 year workmanship guarantee

Something not right with our workmanship in the next seven years? We’ll return and put it right without charging you.

Before you call

Polished Concrete questions we get asked in Canberra

Quick answers to what Canberra homeowners usually ask us before getting a price.

Can any existing slab be polished?

Not always. Polishing only takes material away, so you get whatever stone is already in the slab, and a floor that’s cracking, shifting or damp won’t polish well. We test it and give you a straight answer before you commit.

How long does a polished floor take?

Allow three to five days for a typical home through grinding, hardening and sealing, and longer if tiles, glue or old coatings must come up first. We’ll need the room kept clear of foot traffic while we’re working.

Is polished concrete slippery?

It can be once it’s wet and glossy, so we pick the sheen room by room instead of chasing maximum shine. Entries, laundries and bathrooms get a lower gloss and a slip-resistant sealer.

Do the joints and saw cuts disappear?

No. Control joints let the slab move without cracking, so they stay, although we can fill them in a matching colour. If someone promises you a joint-free floor on a jointed slab, they’re either filling over them or ignoring why they’re there.

How much maintenance does it need?

Day to day it’s a sweep and a damp mop. You’ll never wax the hardened surface, though the sealer wears first at doorways and walkways, and in a sunny north-facing Canberra room you’ll likely need to top it up earlier than the tin says.
