Concrete Services in Forrest

Forrest is one of Canberra's oldest planned suburbs, and much of it is set out on Garden City lines — wide verges, mature street trees and generous blocks, with a good share of the suburb inside a heritage precinct. That shapes nearly every job we take on here. A driveway replacement is rarely just a pour: there is often an old, root-lifted strip to break out, a large tree inside the work area, and a front-yard layout that may need checking against heritage guidance before anything changes. We pour concrete in Forrest for long driveways on larger homes, garden paths, courtyards and garage slabs, and we quote each one after looking at the trees, the clay and what the existing concrete is sitting on — not off a square-metre rate.

  • Driveway replacement on larger homes — Breaking out tired or cracked driveways and repouring in plain, coloured or exposed aggregate finishes that suit the street.
  • Garden paths & courtyards — Paths and sheltered courtyards around established gardens, set out to avoid root damage and drain away from the house.
  • Garage & carport slabs — Slabs for new or rebuilt garages and carports on renovations, poured to the engineer's or certifier's requirements.

What's under Forrest

Ground conditions in Forrest

Once the concrete is poured, there's no going back to fix what's under it. That's why we look at the ground here before we price a single square metre.

Root zones of mature trees

Large established street and garden trees are part of Forrest's character. Their roots lift older driveways and dry out the clay unevenly, so we plan base, reinforcement and joint layout around them.

Reactive clay under old fill

Many original driveways were laid on thin, mixed fill over reactive clay. Once broken out, the base usually needs rebuilding rather than topping up.

Long, gently graded frontages

Deep setbacks mean longer driveways with subtle falls. Getting the grade and stormwater right over that distance matters more than on a short suburban crossover.

Forrest concrete questions

Questions we hear a lot from Forrest homeowners before we come out to quote.

Does the Forrest heritage precinct affect a new driveway?

It can. Parts of Forrest sit within a heritage precinct, and changes to front gardens, driveway positions or materials may need checking against ACT heritage guidance before work starts. A like-for-like replacement is often straightforward, but moving or widening a driveway is a different matter. We flag it at the quote so you can confirm requirements with the ACT planning authority or ACT Heritage before committing to a date.

There is a big tree next to my driveway — can you still replace it?

Usually, but it needs care. The ACT Tree Protection Act covers regulated and registered trees, and digging inside a tree protection zone may need approval from Transport Canberra and City Services (TCCS). We look at the tree, how far the roots extend and how deep we need to excavate, then suggest options such as adjusted alignment or a shallower base detail where an arborist agrees.

Who approves the verge crossing in front of a Forrest home?

The ACT has no local councils. The strip of driveway that crosses the verge from your property line to the kerb is approved by the ACT Government through TCCS and has to follow their standard drawings, while the part on your own land usually needs no sign-off. We spell out which bits of your job need approval up front, so the project doesn’t stall halfway.
